Today, 13th Feb. 1945, your letter of 7th Feb. reached me just before I returned from Crookham, but I have been unable to answer it until now as I could not find the folder containing the figures. I can tell you that the majority of the students come from Malaya. The actual figures (Feb. 1944) were:
Hong Kong Malaya Other places 47.98% 30.34% 10.70% (and 10.98% not specified)At that time, there were approximately 115 medical students. The figures are accurate for all students, but allowing for the disruptions in the South which commenced last June, there are now only about 90.
I am enclosing the letter and list of books for Higham of Kynaston Green, and will send you a copy. I am very handicapped without a typewriter.
With regard to the photographic copy of the Kuvert Deflava, I find that I have not got a copy with me, but I am hoping to get one from one of our graduates in London and will endeavour to send it to you. If this is impossible, I will send you a copy from here.
I am trying again to try and finish by 5th March.
I heard yesterday that my passage is fixed, and I have to leave here on Saturday of this week, going by boat to Cairo and thence by plane.
I should like to express my very warm appreciation of all that you have done, and my love to Hewart and Mary Kay.
I am grateful for the conferences at the Colonial Office and that you and her husband have maintained interest in its welfare. My very sincere thanks.
